In supporting the School Principals, the responsibilities of the Chef, will include, but are not limited to:

Kitchen Operations & Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and ensure efficiency of the kitchen
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and guidelines by Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and Health Promotion Board (HPB) are met.- Nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Carry on observations and prepare reports on day-to-day kitchen operations
  • Ensure kitchen electrical and commercial appliances are monitored and maintained regularly
  • Liaise with relevant vendors
  • Refine healthy menus for children and staff
  • Work closely with Centre Principal in planning the delivery of all 3 meals to all classes daily
  • Refine SOP on meals preparation and kitchen management (workflow) in a semi-commercial kitchen for a Large Childcare Centre
  • Plan and execute the daily kitchen schedule for the different duties (preparation of meals for Infant Care and Childcare, distribution and delivery of meals to classes, cleaning and washing of utensils and equipment, etc.)
  • Ensure culture of safety at all times
  • Arrange for kitchen appliances repairs where necessary
  • Remedy any problems or defect
  • Oversee and handle crisis management within the Kitchen

Financial Management & Administration

  • Ensure food operating costs are within centre‚Äôs budget
  • Maintain kitchen inventory records of all dry and wet rations
  • Select and purchase/order appropriate kitchen appliances, utensils and cutleries
  • Plan orders of ingredients (wet and dry ration) according to identified shortages for the week
  • Ensure proper purchasing/ordering, receiving and food storage standards in the kitchen
  • Manage feedback pertaining to scope of work

Staff Management  

  • Lead and manage the kitchen staff
  • Engage team individually in performance management processes (Staff Confirmation and Appraisals)
  • Ensure proper grooming and hygiene standards for all kitchen staff
  • Delegates appropriately to support staff to meet clearly defined goals and objectives
  • Plan staff roster for Kitchen staff
  • Communicate information, advice and guidance to the Kitchen staff to ensure quality delivery of meals for children, staff and guests. 
  • Conduct meetings with Kitchen staff
  • Plan and conduct trainings and workshops on topics related to Quality Food, Hygiene and Nutrition
  • Ensure that a cohesive working atmosphere is maintained with motivated and engaged staff
  • Plan and execute training sessions with Kitchen staff
  • Interview and hire new applicants for kitchen
  • Plan and carry out induction programme for new hires among Kitchen staff
  • Manage feedback by Kitchen staff
